| This feels like a milestone.
DishTV $59.75 Mother's Day Present $188.10
This is supposed to be the proper amount for the Dish bill. We'll see if I get one of those stealth $4.xx bills toward the end of the month.
My mom spends $100 on me for my birthday. I spend $100 on her for Mother's Day. We've informally agreed on this for years. She has a little side table that she keeps her coffee and newspaper on; it's been slowly breaking for months. Right now the base is held together with a plastic tie. She picked out a new one in the Williamsburg catalog. She told me to get it for her ,and she'd pay back the overage. (I love family members who will tell you exactly what they want) Bamboo Column Table. With the 15% sale, it came to $188.10.
Today's total: $59.75 + $188.10 = $247.85 April's Total: $1244.41 +$247.85 = $1492.26
My son and I went to the ATM to get the $200 he owes me (for his watch and school clothes) and the ATM wasn't working. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I'm posting early because I'm going to be short on time this afternoon.
Today's total: $0.00 April's Total: $1244.41
I went through the Sunday circulars looking for mascara coupons. I think I did a good job. I tore through them, found a couple of coupons for mascara and then looked through the CVS and Walgreen's ads to see if any of the coupons matched the sales. They didn't, so I put the coupons aside, and I'll look again this Sunday. What I didn't do was obsessively look through the circulars then the ads then back to to circulars, ad nauseam, trying to find ALL of the good deals. I went through each of them once and then put the stack in the recycle bin. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Since I work nights, I need a little flashlight. Flashlight for work gave up the ghost. New flashlight $20.38. I totally forgot to pack a lunch last night. Sandwich and soda from the 7-11. $4.53. Renters / Auto insurance $85.39.
Today's total: $20.38 + $4.53 + $85.39 = $110.30 April's Total: $1134.11 + $110.30 = $1244.41 | comments: Leave a comment |

| Gas $41.01. Holy crud, forty-one dollars for 12.821 gallons. $3.199 per gallon.
And I had what feels like a money victory last night. My BF and I wanted to have a girls night. Her idea was dinner and drinks at Cheesecake Factory, then TWO movies. I had to take my son to his dad's, so I didn't have time for that. Her second idea was dessert and drinks and then two movies. We discussed it some more and settled on one movie at the theatre, one movie that she had on her Tivo and a night of beauty at her place.
I paid for the tickets. She got the snacks. $17.00.
Today's total: $41.01 + $17.00 = 58.01 April's Total: $1076.10 + $58.01 = $1134.11 | comments: Leave a comment |
| A big day, unexpectedly. Eyebrow waxing plus tip. $9.00. A straight mute for son's trumpet -- whatever that is. $30.32. My son got his three week progress report at school. He's failing a class. We have a rule, if he's passing, he picks his clothes, shoes and haircut. If he's failing, I do. Four Polo shirts, Three pairs total of khaki and navy Dickie's pants, crew socks and a pair of shoes. $101.27. This isn't the first time this has happened. He'll be wearing these until the end of the year. Son's haircut plus tip. $17.95. A new pair of PJ pants for me. $7.56. A total impulse buy. I saw these at the store while getting his clothes and bought them to make myself feel better. I'd take them back, but I've already worn them.
He'll be paying me back $100.00 for the clothes, and I've stopped his allowance.
Today's total: $9.00 + $30.32 + $101.27 + $17.95 + $7.56 = $166.10 April's Total: $910.00 +$166.01 = $1076.10
My CC number was compromised in one of those lost laptop incidents you hear about on the news So my CC company issued me a card with a new number, but they still show the old number on my online banking site. So when the CC bill came due, they debited my account twice -- once for the old number and once for the new, putting me into overdraft. I was on the phone with them at 4 this morning. They credited the money right away, and I have overdraft protection. But after mentioning the cushion in my account yesterday, I thought I had messed up, and was so upset with myself. Not a good day, all around. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| I hate you all so very, very much. Damn you for saving me $48.00!
I saw that the British Royal Mint was issuing brand new coins -- they have really cool designs. I want them -- a lot. I went to the website and they were selling uncirculated sets for 9.95 British Pounds. And then I saw that they were also selling a set of the designs that are being retired for 9.95 GBPs. The total with shipping was about $48.00. I went all the way to the page where you enter your billing information. Then I stopped.
I think I had that shopping high thing going on -- not good.
I did save the website in case my parents ask me what I want for my birthday.

| Happy April Fool's Day everyone.
Mortgage: $790.00 HOA: $210.00 OxFam: $10.00
Today's total: $790.00 + $210.00 + $10.00 = $910.00 April's Total: $910.00
And I actually have a cushion in my checking account. That is a great feeling. I looked at my balance, and I thought that the HOA bill hadn't gone through, but it had. Now if I can just pretend like that the cushion isn't there. Before electronic banking, I'd just subtract a set amount from the register. If I didn't see it, I wasn't tempted to spend it. | comments: Leave a comment |
| This month has seemed really long.
We didn't get done with voting at the convention until almost midnight. The county party had to shell out a lot of money to rent the space. I pitched in $30 to help. Coffee, various foodstuffs, coffee, Junior Mints, coffee, campaign buttons, coffee $25.00.
Today's total: $55.00 March's Total: $2405.09
I do think I am doing much better with wanting to shop when I am bored. I haven't even been looking at the Sunday ads and blogs that list all of the specials at Target, CVS, etc. How many days do they say it takes to break a habit?
I'm going to have to buy a straight mute for my son's trumpet tomorrow -- whatever that is.
I need (want) a new mascara. The old one was getting clumpy and the thought of eye infections freaks me out. I need a box from my BF's birthday present -- which I may have in a closet and a card for her as well. And I honestly can't think of anything else I need. That's a change. I used to have a running list of 10-15 things that I needed/wanted. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| I'm leaving for our county Democratic convention. I'm sure I'll spend money today -- we're not allowed to bring outside food into the venue. I'm going to have to leave the convention and go straight to work. I'll post what I spend on tomorrow's update.
Today's total: $0.00 March's Total: $2350.09 | comments: Leave a comment |
| DishTV: $4.28. I checked and I have been paying too little on the autopay. I've changed it for April. I also need to check and see when my contract is up. I'm going to ask for a loyalty discount to stay with them.
My BF's necklace came in the mail -- that was fast. It's gorgeous.
Today's total: $4.28 March's Total: $2345.81 + $4.28 = $2350.09 | comments: Leave a comment |
| Allowance $13.00 and last week's allowance $13.00.
Today's total: $26.00 March's Total: $2319.81 + $26.00 = $2345.81
I bought my son a watch on vacation. He's supposed to pay me back $100.00. I need to make sure I get that from him this week. It was $125.00, which I think is totally ridiculous. But I'm trying to let him make money decisions that I see as mistakes so he can learn for himself. I have to try really hard to discuss things in a semi-neutral way, instead of going with my gut instinct of "Holy crap! You and your father and your shiny, shiny toys! Your aunt got you a watch for Christmas! It wasn't anywhere near a hundred dollars, but it works! Do you want to end up bankrupt? You're not living in my basement when you grow up!eleventyone"
It's funny that I didn't have this reaction when he was looking for a game system -- which I think are also over-priced. I think I had the bad reaction for two reasons:
1. I like to plan before big purchases, and it made me really uncomfortable that he wanted the watch spur-of-the-moment.
2. It was something I wouldn't want for myself. I truly think I wouldn't have had the same reaction if he had wanted something that I would also like, even if it had cost more than the watch -- I'm trying to think of an example, and all that I can come up with off the top of my head is a signed first-edition Alfred Bester novel. Sometimes it pains me that my son is not a fanboi. I would love an excuse to buy action figures and collectibles.
And my relative who lives with us is having their hours cut at work. I'm taking over the internet bill next month and will probably start paying for some food as well. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I bought my best friend's birthday present today! It's from Etsy. bluestonedesigns. It looks a lot like this one, only with cobalt stones. $41.50 with shipping. My budget was $50.00 -- go me.
